Partnering in Mission

First Presbyterian Church is about creating and sustaining partnerships that serve our community. The church is joining hands with other community groups that are making a difference. Partnerships occur both locally and beyond. First Presbyterian Church of Nelsonville is a connectional church, as it invests with other congregations in its denomination to support mission in Ohio, throughout the country, and around the world.

Buckeye Ministerial Association

The Buckeye Ministerial Association consists of area churches who come together for the purpose of fellowship, worship, outreach, and service. Over the years, the Association has hosted joint worship services, including two Holy Week dramatizations, a number of Christmas season events, and Baccalaureate services. It has also offered college scholarships, hosted Gospel music events for the Nelsonville’s Parade of the Hills, and provided emergency services for those in financial need in the community.

Circle Round the Square

First Presbyterian Church has partnered with Circle Round the Square, a summer arts day-camp for Nelsonville-area youth. Over the years, the church has provided facilities for morning gatherings, breakfasts and lunches, and gardening and cooking workshops. Stroll the galleries of evocative art work, watch a theater performance written, produced, and acted by youth, or taste the delicious samples from a healthy cooking lab, and you will experience the impact of Circle Round the Square on our community.

Rural Action

First Presbyterian Church has partnered with Rural Action a local non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable economic development and environmental stewardship in our Appalachian region. Rural Action has assisted the Nelsonville Presbyterian Farm in providing hands-on environmental education to school-aged youth in local school districts. They have also provided technical expertise toward developing strategies for stewarding the property. These efforts have helped us manage the Farm as an important community resource.
